Unbeaten Zarkava Retired & Heads To Dalakhani
The Aga Khan's Irish home-bred 3YO filly Zarkava (Zamindar-Zarkasha, by Kahyasi) who maintained her unbeaten record of 7 successive victories by defeating a star-studded lineup of older rivals in this month's French Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) at Longchamp has been retired from racing & will be covered by The Aga Khan's 2003 Arc winner Dalakhani in her 1st season at stud. The Aga Khan announced overnight: "While no-one will regret more than my management team & I not to see Zarkava race again, we have decided to retire her to the Aga Khan broodmare band as she will be an invaluable asset to this essential part of our activity. The quality & youth of our broodmare band is of the utmost importance, to ensure we remain breeders of racehorses capable of performing at the top level. The Aga Khan studs have produced 3 exceptional fillies in 3 consecutive years: Mandesha, Darjina & now Zarkava. Their addition to our broodmare band will enhance the economic value at a time when competition is becoming increasingly global." Prior to her Arc triumph, Zarkava also won September's French Gr1 Prix Vermeille (2400m) against older rivals at Longchamp & previously this season she also captured France's Gr1 Prix De Diane-French Oaks (2100m) at Chantilly, Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches-1000 Guineas (1600m) at Longchamp & Gr3 Prix De La Grotte (1600m) at Longchamp. Last year Zarkava won France's Gr1 Prix Marcel Boussac (1600m) at Longchamp & overall retires with 7 wins (5 Gr1s) from 7 starts for £2,463,140 (A$5.172m) earnings.
