UK Tatts Book 2 Day-3: $924k Danehill Dancer Colt
Despite international economic gloom, a new record price was set when bloodstock agent Maxine Cowdrey (standing with Newmarket trainer Sir Michael Stoute) out-bid Coolmore representative Demi O'Byrne & paid 420,000 guineas (A$924,000) for a colt by Coolmore shuttler Danehill Dancer (out of Listed-winning Grand Lodge mare Castle Quest) during last night's closing session at the 3-day Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 at Park Paddocks in Newmarket. The colt was consigned from Paul McCarten's Ballyphilip Stud in Ireland (on behalf of breeder Dermot McAuliffe) & the price was a new record for Book 2 of the Tattersalls Sale. Stoute indicated the colt was purchased on behalf of North American-based Brushwood Stables owner Betty Moran, who previously raced UK Gr2-winner Jeremy (also by Danehill Dancer & trained by Stoute). The colt's sire Danehill Dancer has enjoyed tremendous success on the track in 2008, with 26 Group & Listed winners world-wide (including recent stars Mastercraftsman in the Gr1 National Stakes & Again in the Gr1 Moyglare Stud Stakes).
