11YO Marwin Gold Wins Final Career Start

Friday, 17th October 2008

Evergreen 11-year-old gelded sprinter Marwin Gold (Marwina-Princess Marigold, by Yeats) snatched victory by a half-head over 1100m at Moe in Victoria yesterday in his final career start for trainer Gary Portelli. Marwin Gold (ridden by Harry Hillier) retires with 20 wins & 18 placings from 85 starts for $638,113 prize-money over 9 racing seasons. Portelli reminded the media: "He only cost us $6,000 as a yearling straight out of the paddock!" And brother Troy Portelli added: "There's a million horses that can string together 3 or 4 wins; but it's not as easy to find one that can come out & win $50,000 in prize-money every preparation for 9 years."
