Vic Chief Steward Says Drugs Biggest Issue In Racing

Friday, 17th October 2008

Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey told The Sydney Morning Herald columnist Max Presnell that "drugs & the lack of funding for efforts to detect them are the most important issues facing racing". Bailey declared: "The amount of money we spend on drug research in Victoria equates to about the value of the Melbourne Cup trophy. In this day & age, it isn't enough. We want an even playing field. People don't get up at 3 o'clock in the morning, 7-days-a-week, to be beaten by a cheat."
