Barathea Adds UK Black-Type

Monday, 20th October 2008

Former Widden Stud shuttler Barathea (Sadler's Wells-Brocade, by Habitat) added a UK black-type success when Irish-bred 4YO daughter Barshiba (Barathea-Dashiba, by Dashing Blade) scored a half-length victory in the £44,000 (A$92,000) Listed Severals Stakes (10 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Newmarket. Barshiba (ridden by Richard Quinn for trainer David Elsworth) defeated fast-finishing fellow Irish-bred 4YO mare Fragrancy (Singspiel-Zibet, by Kris) & another 4YO mare In The Light (Inchinor-Exclusive Approval, by With Approval). Previously this season, Barshiba finished runner-up in both the Gr2 Summer Smile (8 furlongs) at Ascot & Listed Valiant Stakes (8 furlongs) at Ascot, plus 3rd in the Gr3 Dahlia Stakes (9 furlongs) at Newmarket. And during 2007 Barshiba won the Listed Sandringham Stakes (8 furlongs) at Royal Ascot, plus finishing 2nd in the Listed Distaff Stakes (8 furlongs) at Sandown Park. Overall she now has 3 wins & 5 placings from 20 starts for £122,709 (A$257,000) earnings.
