Barathea Adds US Gr3

In the US, former Widden Stud shuttler Barathea (Sadler's Wells-Brocade, by Habitat) added a graded-stakes success when UK-bred 7YO gelding Always First (Barathea-Pink Cristal, by Dilum) flashed home from last-to-first in the straight to score a 0.75-lengths victory in the US$150,000 Gr3 Sycamore Stakes (12 furlongs on turf) at Keeneland in Kentucky. Always First (ridden by Rene Douglas for trainer Tom Voss) defeated favoured 5YO gelding Transduction Gold (Formal Gold-Moondust Mink, by Great Above) who won this race last year & 4YO entire Telling (A.P.Indy-Well Chosen, by Deputy Minister). At his previous start, Always First (who finished 3rd in this race in 2006) returned from over a year away from the track to finish 8th in the Gr3 Kentucky Cup Turf Stakes (12 furlongs) on September 13. Always First took his overall record to 7 wins from 21 starts for US$578,032 earnings; his previous victories include 2007's Gr3 Stars And Stripes Breeders' Cup Turf Handicap (12 furlongs) at Arlington Park, plus the Listed Cape Henlopen Stakes (12 furlongs on turf) at Delaware Park in both 2006 & 2007, as well as 2005's Gr2 Sunset Breeders' Cup Handicap (12 furlongs on turf) at Hollywood Park; & his placings include 2007's Gr3 Louisville Handicap (12 furlongs on turf) at Churchill Downs & Gr3 Elkhorn Stakes (12 furlongs on turf) at Keeneland, plus 2006's Gr3 Sycamore Stakes (12 furlongs on turf) at Keeneland.
