Northern Meteor Wins Brian Crowley Stakes

Monday, 20th October 2008

Coolmore stallion & last season's Australian champion sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek by Star Way) added a black-type success when exciting colt Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago-Explosive, by Fappiano) set his 2nd track record in 10 days as he blitzed his rivals by 5-lengths in the $100,000 Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) for 3YOs at Randwick. Front-running favourite Northern Meteor (ridden by Jamie Innes for trainer Gai Waterhouse) clocked 1min 8.32sec in defeating the gelding Geared Up (Testa Rossa-Certain, by Rory's Jester) & filly Yesterday (Red Ransom-Donna Cara, by Sir Tristram). At his previous start, Gooree Stud home-bred Northern Meteor (a 3/4-brother to Gr3 Gloaming Stakes winner Fight And Defend, as well as a half-brother to multiple Gr3-winner Queen of The Hill) set a course record at Canterbury Park in Sydney when he similarly blitzed his rivals by 4.25-legths & clocked 1min 12.47sec over 1250m. Overall he now has 2 wins & a placing from 4 starts for $89,980 earnings. (Click on the link for full race details from Group Race Results at AAP Racing.)
