2kg Melb Cup Penalty For All The Good

Tuesday, 21st October 2008

Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter announced a 2kg penalty to Godolphin's 6YO entire All The Good (Diesiss-Zarara, by Manila) for the Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) following his win in Saturday's Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m). The penalty takes All The Good's Melbourne Cup weight to 55kg & Carpenter commented: "All The Good has emerged as a stayer of the highest quality in his last 2 runs, winning the Newburgh Handicap in England & now the Gr1 Caulfield Cup. Although there was only 2.5 lengths between the first 7 runners home on Saturday & a number of his rivals produced outstanding Melbourne Cup trials, All The Good was impressive in victory & should be further suited over the longer distance at Flemington. In determining the penalty, I was also mindful that the Melbourne Cup represents a new challenge with the 2 best stayers in the world, Septimus & Efficient, set to run along with a number of other quality entrants who did not contest the Caulfield Cup."
