Gr1-Winner Literato Retired To French Stud

Wednesday, 22nd October 2008

In France, Gr1-winning 4YO entire Literato (Kendor-La Cibeles, by Cardoun) "has been retired by Godolphin & will enter stud at Aliette Forien's Haras de la Reboursiere et de Montaigu in Normandy," reported racingpost.co.uk. The stud is Literato's birthplace & the former home of his sire Kendor (who died last year). Literato (unbeaten in 5 runs as a 2YO in France, including 2 Listed wins) was originally a €40,000 (A$68,000) Deauville August yearling, but was acquired by Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin organisation last December in a deal reported to be worth in excess of €4.5 million (A$7.65m). He retires with 9 wins (including 2007's UK Gr1 Champion Stakes, plus France's Gr2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano, Gr3 Prix du Prince d'Orange & Gr3 Prix la Force) & 2 runners-up (in 2007's Gr1 Prix du Jockey Club-French Derby & Listed Prix Omnium II) from 13 starts.
