Huge Response To NZTR Owners Survey

Wednesday, 22nd October 2008

More than 1,500 current owners responded to Part 2 of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing's National Owners' Survey & the results are now being collated & will be published in November. Part 2 of the survey focused on the 'raceday experience' from an owner's perspective Part 1 was directed at the owner-trainer relationship. NZTR & the 2 groups which work most closely with owners (clubs & trainers) will now use data "to improve the way owners are looked after by the industry". The survey "covered all aspects of owners' raceday experience: starting from the way & timeframes in which owners receive nominations & acceptances, to whether or not they have a say in which jockey is employed & what level of service owners receive from jockeys". Racing clubs were also a major focus in Part 2: specifically, the survey asked whether owners "feel well informed regarding raceday privileges & how they rate on-course signage, food & beverage options & if they expect an improved level of hosting on group race days". NZTR also investigated "the number of people owners generally bring with them to a meeting when they have a runner, who are not involved in the horse's ownership". Questions which generated "some of the most interesting replies, included which races owners dream of winning & what inspires those dreams". Betting habits were investigated & NZTR "now has a guide for the number of owners who hold TAB accounts, how they generally bet on their own horses & whether or not they also bet on harness and/or greyhound racing".
