US Matrons Produce Stream Of Aust Gr1-Winners
Meanwhile with Keeneland's November Breeding Stock Sale in Kentucky looming from November 3-17, Keeneland's Australasian representative Vin Cox noted: "The success of broodmares with a USA suffix is running at an all time high, with 5 winners of 12 Australian Gr1 races decided so far this season having an American dam." Last Saturday's Gr1 Caulfield Cup winner All The Good is from Zarara & other Australian Gr1 winners this season sourced from US mares are Typhoon Zed (Gr1 Manikato Stakes), Mentality (Gr1 George Main Stakes), Theseo (Gr1 Epsom Handicap) & Gallic (Gr1 MRC Thousand Guineas). Cox also noted Gai Waterhouse's outstanding colt Northern Meteor is the latest example of the value of USA blood "following his awesome win at Randwick last Saturday. Northern Meteor's win in the Brian Crowley was incredible. To break track records in successive runs stamps him as one of the most exciting horses in the land: 20-year-old course records are very rarely challenged, let alone lowered, certainly not by a lightly-raced 3YO essentially at the beginning of his career.” Cox also noted that, as Keeneland approaches, "a lot of people need liquidity fast & that is leading to a larger number of quality horses to be entered for sales that we normally wouldn't see"; in particular, while Keeneland's November Bloodstock Sale "has traditionally been the domain of broodmares & weanlings, this year's auction contains a disproportionate number of high-end racehorses. For example, one of the largest & most successful racing stables in the US is dispersing a number of race fillies & colts that would be very competitive in Australia from Saturday metro class up to black-type."
