Albertus Maximus Wins US Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile

Owner-breeders Marianne & Brandon Chase's 4YO entire Albertus Maximus (Albert The Great-Chasethewildwind, by Forty Niner) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the US$1 million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (8 furlongs on all-weather) at Santa Anita. Albertus Maximus (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Vladimir Cerin) defeated fast-finishing UK-bred 5YO entire Rebellion (Mozart-Last Resort, by Lahib) & front-running 3YO colt Two Step Salsa (Petionville-Two To Waltz, by Seattle Slew). Last month Albertus Maximus finished 3rd in the Gr1 Goodwood Stakes (9 furlongs on all-weather) at Santa Anita, after earlier in September winning the Listed Windy Sands Stakes (8 furlongs on all-weather) at Del Mar. And in 2007 he finished runner-up in both the Gr2 Swaps Breeders' Cup Stakes (9 furlongs on all-weather) & Gr3 Affirmed Handicap (8.5 furlongs on all-weather) at Hollywood Park. Overall Albertus Maximus now has 5 wins & 5 placings from 15 starts for US$908,230 earnings.
