European 2001 Horse-Of-The-Year & 6-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Fantastic Light (Rahy-Jood, by Nijinsky) added a US group success when 5YO mare Roshani (Fantastic Light-Sahibah, by Deputy Minister) scored a half-length victory in the US$250,000 Gr2 Las Palmas Handicap (8 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Santa Anita. Roshani (ridden by John Velazquez for trainer Todd Pletcher) defeated Irish-bred fellow 5YO mare Rosinka (Soviet Star-Last Drama, by Last Tycoon) & another 5YO mare Lemon Chiffon (Lemon Drop Kid-Cataballerina, by Tabasco Cat). Previously this season, Kentucky-bred Roshani (a US$135,000 purchase as a 4YO in the 2007 Keeneland January horses-of-all-ages sale) also won May's Gr3 Gallorette Handicap (8.5 furlongs) at Pimlico; & last year she won the Gr3 Matchmaker Handicap (9 furlongs on turf) at Monmouth Park & also finished 3rd in the Gr3 Eatontown Stakes (8.5 furlongs) at Monmouth. Overall Roshani (who is due for auction at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale) now has 7 wins & 3 placings from 13 starts for US$481,300 earnings. Meanwhile favoured NZ-bred & Gr1-winning 5YO mare Black Mamba (Black Minnaloushe-Sneetch, by Grosvenor) finished 7th in the field of 14.
