Monday, 27th October 2008

Charles Cono's juvenile Stardom Bound (Tapit-My White Corvette, by Tarr Road) notched her 3rd US Gr1 triumph in the last 2 months by overpowering the leaders in the straight to notch a 1.5-lengths victory in the US$2 million Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (8.5 furlongs on all-weather) for 2YO fillies at Santa Anita. Favourite Stardom Bound (ridden by Mike Smith for trainer Chris Paasch) defeated Dream Express (Bernstein-Chinese Empress, by Nijinsky ) & Sky Diva (Sky Mesa-Swift Girl, by Unbridled). Kentucky-bred Stardom Bound was purchased for US$375,000 earlier this year at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co March sale of selected 2YO-in-training. At her previous 2 starts, she also won both September's US Gr1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes (7 furlongs on all-weather) at Del Mar & Gr1 Oak Leaf Breeders' Cup Stakes (8.5 furlongs on all-weather) at Santa Anita; overall she now has 3 wins & 2 runners-up (including August's Gr2 Sorrento Stakes over 6.5 furlongs on all-weather at Del Mar) from 5 starts for US$1,420,600 earnings.
