1st Winner With 1st Runner For Shamardal

Tuesday, 28th October 2008

On the track yesterday, 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttle stallion & 1st-crop sire Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) recorded his 1st winner with his 1st runner when 2YO filly Happy Hippy (Shamardal-Springburn, by Soviet Lad) scored on debut over 1000m at Taree in NSW for Nathan Tinkler's Patinack Farm & trainer Jason Coyle. Happy Hippy (whose dam Springburn is a half-sister to Gr1 Salinger Stakes winner Notoire & multiple-Listed winner Well Known) was a $32,000 yearling consigned by Edinglassie Stud at the 2007 Inglis Winter Mixed Sale. After missing last season due to equine influenza, Shamardal returned to Australia for his 3rd season at Darley this year, where his fee is $44,000. His oldest northern hemisphere progeny are yearlings.
