UK Tatts HIT Day-2: $750k Washington Irving

Wednesday, 29th October 2008

County Durham-based trainer Howard Johnson (standing alongside Graham Wylie) paid 300,000 guineas (A$750,000) for 3YO colt Washington Irving (Montjeu-Shouk, by Shirley Heights) consigned from Ireland's Ballydoyle Stables. Washington Irving (who finished 5th in this season's Gr1 English Derby) won at Navan in Ireland 3 weeks ago after a series of strong efforts in Group company. Johnson told racingpost.co.uk: "He's got to be good to have finished 6.5-lengths behind New Approach (in the Derby). We'll castrate him & then give him a rest. We'll run him on the flat next year."
