Hayes Supports Foreigners & Assistance For Locals

Thursday, 30th October 2008

Fellow high-profile trainer David Hayes told The Daily Telegraph: "I'm all for international competition, but as more overseas horses target the Melbourne Cup, I think it should be easier for the local horses to get into the race. We have the ludicrous situation where the Moonee Valley Cup winner Gallopin might not make the Field. This is a traditional lead-up race to the Melbourne Cup & the winner should be in the race. Even the Geelong Cup winner Bauer should be in the Melbourne Cup. My point is that there are not enough races where the local stayers can win & get into the Cup. If there is to be a handicapping special in the race, it should be a local horse."
