Minister Vetoes Qld Racing Constitution Change

Thursday, 30th October 2008

Queensland Racing Minister Andrew Fraser told parliament both the Australian Securities And Investments Commission & Queensland Crime And Misconduct Commission have completed their investigations into the controversial change to the constitution of Queensland Racing (under which Queensland Racing chairman Bob Bentley & director Bill Ludwig exercised proxies on behalf of industry groups to approved a change that could allow directors to remain in their roles until 2018). Fraser confirmed: "This matter has now been the subject of assessment by the CMC & ASIC & no further action is being pursued by either body." However Fraser announced that he had decided to reject the amendment submitted by QR on the grounds "it does not appropriately provide for independent selection of directors".
