NSW Regulates Interstate Wagering Operators

Thursday, 30th October 2008

NSW Minister For Gaming & Racing Kevin Greene yesterday introduced into Parliament "reforms imposing responsible gambling requirements on all wagering operators who advertise their services in NSW". Greene said the changes to the Racing Administration Amendment Bill 2008 follow the recent announcement by the NSW & Victorian governments "lifting restrictions on interstate wagering operators from advertising in both states". Greene noted the NSW Government "is restricting the nature of advertising to ensure integrity & reduce gambling harm when interstate wagering operators legally advertise in NSW. A recent High Court decision raised constitutional issues about laws prohibiting interstate wagering operators from advertising across the country. These new changes ensure our laws are in line with our Constitution & consistent with existing advertising standards. It is imperative we ensure wagering operators from outside NSW are subject to the same strict regulations as those licensed here."
