UK Tatts HIT Day-3: $925k Kalahari Gold
Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell Estate stud manager Johnny Peter-Hoblyn out-bid Hong Kong trainer Peter Ho & paid 370,000 guineas (A$925,000) for 3YO gelding Kalahari Gold (Trans Island-Neat Shilling, by Bob Back) consigned from Park House Stables. Kalahari Gold's latest victory came in a Listed race at Newbury last month & Peter-Hoblyn told racingpost.co.uk "we are thinking he could possibly go to Dubai (for the 2009 carnival), but it will be up to Sheikh Hamdan to decide." Kalahari Gold was previously purchased for just 20,000 guineas (A$50,000) as a yearling.
