US Sprint Champ Midnight Lute Retired To Hill 'N' Dale
Multiple Gr1-winning US 5YO stallion Midnight Lute (Real Quiet-Candytuft, by Dehere) has been retired & and will stand the 2009 season for US$20,000 at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farms in Kentucky, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Last weekend at Santa Anita, Midnight Lute (2007 US Eclipse Award winner for Champion Male Sprinter) created history as the only horse ever to win the US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Sprint (6 furlongs ) twice (he also won in 2007) & retires with 6 wins (also including the 2007 Gr1 Forego Handicap & 2006 Gr3 Perryville Stakes, plus 2008's Sentient Flight Group Breeders' Cup Sprint) & 4 placings (including the 2007 Gr1 Cigar Mile Handicap & 2006 Gr1 Malibu Stakes) from 13 starts for US$2,690,600 earnings. Sikura enthused: "Midnight Lute is perfection in his conformation. Big, long, beautiful & perfectly correct. He is breathtaking to look at & we expect him to be a top sire." And leading trainer Bob Baffert declared: "I've never had a horse like him! He's a beast: a massive, beautiful horse - the perfect thoroughbred. He's the best I've ever trained. I can't put into words how good this horse is. All of my clients will be breeding their best mares to him: Silverbulletday & Tough Tiz's Sis for starters."
