Friday, 31st October 2008

Godolphin's 6YO entire Ramonti (Martino Alonso-Fosca, by El Gran Senor) who notched 4 Gr1 triumphs last season "but raced only once this season due to a recurrent leg infection, has been retired to stand as a stallion from next spring" reported racingpost.co.uk. Ramonti will stand for Darley at Kildangan Stud in Ireland for €5,000 (A$9,500) & Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock adviser John Ferguson commented: "Ramonti was a brilliant racehorse, with a tremendous record & it was a great pity he wasn't able to run more this season." Italian-bred Ramonti retires with 12 wins (including 2007's Gr1 Hong Kong International Cup over 2000m at Sha Tin, UK Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes over 8 furlongs at Ascot, UK Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes over 8 furlongs at Royal Ascot & UK Gr1 Sussex Stakes over 8 furlongs at Goodwood, plus 2006's Italian Gr1 Premio Vittorio Di Capua over 1600m at San Siro & Gr2 Premio Emilio Turati) & 6 placings (including runner-up in both 2007's French Gr1 Prix Du Moulin over 1600m at Longchamp & UK Gr1 Lockinge Stakes over 8 furlongs at Newbury, plus 3rd in 2006's Gr1 Hong Kong International Mile over 1600m at Sha Tin) from 20 starts.
