Tote Tasmania Record Turnover Up 30%
Tote Tasmania achieved record turnover of $498 million for 2007-08, an increase of 30% compared to the previous year. The company's annual report (tabled in Parliament today) said the majority of this growth "was generated from customers betting via their on-line & telephone accounts & from outside of Australia. Pari-mutuel wagering totalled $478 million (up 27% compared to last year) with "an estimated 70% of this growth generated by international customers". Tote Tasmania's agency arrangement with Betfair "that provided the company with access to Betfair's global customer base of more than 1 million punters also substantially added to the pari-mutuel pools". Chairman Michael Kent said Tote Tasmania distributed a record $23.7 million to the Tasmanian Racing Industry in 2007-08, up from $20.4 million in 2006-07.
