Wednesday, 14th January 2009

In South America, last season's champion juvenile filly Maitena (Apprentice-Nieve Perpetua, by Devil's Moon) scored a 2-lengths victory over her male rivals in Peru's Gr1 Clasico Gran Premio Nacional Augusto Leguia (2600m on turf) for 3YOs at Hipodromo de Monterrico in Lima. Maitena (ridden by Benjamin Padilla for trainer Juan Suarez) defeated the colts Danger (Fregy's-Daryn, by Keseff) & Interoceanico (Privately Held-India Brava, by Fast Gold). Maitena took her record to 5 wins (also including 2008's Gr1 Clasico Polla De Potrancas-1000 Guineas over 1600m & Gr3 Clasico Augusto Mostajo Barrera over 1400m) & 2 placings (including 2008's Gr1 Clasico Enrique Ayulo Pardo over 2000m & Listed Clasico Roberto Alvarez Calderon over 1300m) from 8 starts.
