Curlin Wins 2nd Successive US Horse-Of-Year

In the US, Curlin (Smart Strike-Sherriff's Deputy, by Deputy Minister) was named 2008 Horse-Of-The-Year to take the title for the 2nd successive season. Curlin (who has entered stud to stand his initial season for US$75,000 at William Farish's Lane's End Farm in Kentucky) was named the world's joint top-rated horse (at 130) in the 2008 World Thoroughbred Rankings announced by the International Federation Of Horse Authorities a fortnight ago. He retired with 11 wins (including 2008's Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational Stakes for the 2nd successive season, plus the Gr1 Woodward Stakes, Gr1 Stephen Foster Handicap & Gr1 Dubai World Cup, as well as 2007's Gr1 Preakness Stakes, Gr1 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes, Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic, Gr2 Arkansas Derby & Gr3 Rebel Stakes) & 4 placings (including 2008's Gr1 Man o' War Stakes, plus 2007's Gr1 Kentucky Derby & Gr1 Belmont Stakes) from 16 starts for an all-time North American record US$10,501,800 earnings.
