Vodka Wins Japan Horse-Of-Year
In Japan, now 5YO mare Vodka (Tanino Gimlet-Tanino Sister, by Rousillon) was named 2008 Horse-Of-The-Year: the 1st female to win the title in 11 years & only 3rd overall (after Tomei in 1971 & Air Groove in 1997). Vodka (also named 2008 champion Older Female) won 2 of 7 starts in the 2008 season, with prestigious victories in the Gr1 Yasuda Kinen & Gr1 Tenno Sho (both against horses of all ages & both genders). Vodka was previously Japan's 2006 champion 2YO filly & in 2007 was the 1st filly to win the Gr1 Japanese Derby in 64 years. She completed her 4YO season with a 3rd in the Gr1 Japan Cup & is currently being prepared to begin her 5YO season in Dubai.
