NSW Track Invaders Face Life Ban & $5.5k Fine

Wednesday, 1st July 2009

NSW Minister For Gaming & Racing Kevin Greene announced that from today "tough new penalties will be in place for racetrack invasions". The penalties range from expulsion to a life ban & a maximum fine of $5,500. Greene noted "concern about the dangers of people jumping the fence & running onto a race track while a race is in progress" & emphasised: "These idiots are not only a danger to themselves, they also put the lives of jockeys, drivers, course clerks & animal handlers at risk. Racing participants & their animals have a right to conduct races in a safe environment. For several years now it has been illegal to invade sporting fields. Now this same offence & fine will apply at race tracks."
