Romanet To Focus On Medication At US Round Table
Meanwhile International Federation Of Horseracing Authorities chairman Louis Romanet "will focus on the importance of & need for international harmonisation of medication policies in the keynote address at the US Jockey Club's 57th annual Round Table Conference On Matters Pertaining To Racing" in New York next month, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The IFHA's "primary mission is to coordinate & harmonise rules regarding breeding, racing & wagering among its more than 50 member countries" & the remarks by Romanet (IFHA chairman since its creation in 1993 & director general of France Galop from 1998-2007) "will conclude a segment on medication standards". The speech follows the statement in April by US Jockey Club Thoroughbred Safety Committee chairman Stuart Janney that "American racing is out-of-step with the rest of the world in the area of permissive medication". Janney declared: "We need to reconcile our drug policies on race-day administration of Salix & withdrawal times for therapeutic medications with the rest of the world."
