NSW Minister Approves Internet Access For On-Course Bookies

Thursday, 2nd July 2009

Meanwhile NSW Gaming & Racing Minister Kevin Greene "has approved a move for bookmakers in NSW to be able to operate on racecourses with internet access," reported The Sydney Morning Herald. NSW Bookmakers Co-Operative chief executive Peter Fletcher commented: "This will allow NSW bookies access to the national betting market information, including corporate bookmaker sites & Betfair. It's vital information that has previously been denied them, with many local fielders having been stung in recent times by punters having advance notice of major market movements elsewhere. The ability to bet-back with the corporates & Betfair is also of vital importance." Fletcher urged the Minister to adopt "all the recommendations made by Alan Cameron last year in respect of NSW bookmaking", noting: "The most critical of these is the allowance of 24/7 acceptance of bets on all racing events by phone & internet, including when away from the racecourse."
