UK Stayer & 2008 Melb Cup Favourite Out For Season

Thursday, 2nd July 2009

Also in the UK, Luca Cumani's 5YO stayer Mad Rush (Lemon Drop Kid-Revonda, by Sadler's Wells) who started favourite & finished 7th in last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup "is out for the season after injuring himself" in last weekend's Irish Gr3 Curragh Cup (14 furlongs), reported racingpost.com. At his previous start on June 5, Mad Rush began his 2009 campaign with victory in the UK Listed Tapster Stakes (12 furlongs) at Goodwood in his 1st race since returning from Australia. Ironically, the Curragh Cup was won by Dermot Weld's 5YO mare Profound Beauty (Danehill-Diamond Trim, by Highest Honor) who was returning to the track for her 1st run since finishing 5th in last year's Melbourne Cup. Following the victory, Weld indicated Profound Beauty is again heading to the Melbourne Cup (after a tilt at September's Gr1 Irish St Leger); but Cumani lamented yesterday that Mad Rush had "pulled up lame & will have a long rest & probably won't be out again this season."
