Sea The Stars Wins UK Gr1 Coral-Eclipse

Monday, 6th July 2009

Former Darley shuttler Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal, by Ahonoora) added a Gr1 triumph when Irish-bred 3YO colt Sea The Stars (Cape Cross-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) scored a 1-length victory in the £500,000 (A$1,025,000) Gr1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes (10 furlongs) at Newmarket. Taking on older horses, Sea The Stars (ridden by Mick Kinane for trainer John Oxx) defeated fellow 3YO colt Rip Van Winkle (Galileo-Looking Back, by Stravinsky) & 4YO entire Conduit (Dalakhani-Well Head, by Sadler's Wells). At his 2 most recent starts Sea The Stars (a half-brother to Gr1-winners Galileo, Black Sam Bellamy & My Typhoon) returned from a 7-months spell to win England's Gr1 2000 Guineas (8 furlongs) at Newmarket in early May & followed-up in early June with victory in the Gr1 English Derby (12 furlongs) at Epsom Downs. He now has 5 wins from 6 starts.
