Goldikova Wins UK Gr1 Falmouth Stakes

Thursday, 9th July 2009

Ill-fated former Widden Stud shuttler and champion sire Anabaa (Danzig-Balbonella, by Gay Mecene) added a posthumous Gr1 triumph when the Werthheimer family's Irish-bred & French-trained favoured 4YO mare Goldikova (Anabaa-Born Gold, by Blushing Groom) scored by 0.5-length in the £200,000 (A$412,000) Gr1 Falmouth Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares 3YO & up at Newmarket in England. Goldikova (ridden by Olivier Peslier for trainer Freddie Head) defeated 6YO mare Heaven Sent (Pivotal-Heavenly Ray, by Rahy) & fellow 4YO Spacious (Nayef-Palatial, by Green Desert). Commenting on the victory, Head said: "She has been working well coming here and I was very happy with her prep gallops so I was very confident." Goldikova has also recorded Gr1 wins in France & the US, and was rated 125 in the 2008 World Rankings of 3YO Fillies.
