Gio Ponti Wins US Gr1 Man o' War Stakes

Glenlogan Park's stallion coup in landing Tale Of The Cat's boom 2YO youngster Real Saga (Tale Of The Cat-Windy Kate, by Success Express) received a major boost when leading US 4YO entire Gio Poni (Tale Of The Cat-Chipeta Springs, by Alydar) made it 3 Gr1s on the trot & 4 wins from his past 5 starts on the turf course winning the US$500,000 Gr1 Man O' War Stakes (11 furlongs) at Belmont. Coming from off the pace and 5-wide, Gio Ponti (ridden by Ramon Dominguez for trainer Christophe Clemente) won by 1.75 lengths from German-bred pair 7YO entire Musketier (Acatenango-Myth And Reality, by Linamix) & 7YO gelding Quijano (Acatenango-Quila, by Unfuwain). The victory took Gio Ponti's win record to 8 from 13 starts for US$1,545,800 earnings. According to bloodhorse.com, trainer Clemente said after the race: "You know what, it's nice when they're that good. This is his third grade I in a row, it just confirms that at the moment, I'm afraid, he's got to be the leader of the turf division here."
