Sariska Wins Gr1 Irish Oaks

Tuesday, 14th July 2009

Lady Bamford's home-bred Sariska (Pivotal-Maycocks Bay, by Muhtarram) claimed a Classic UK/Irish Oaks double when she scored with a 3-length victory in the €500,000 (A$892,000) Gr1 Darley Irish Oaks (12 furlongs on turf) for 3YO fillies at Curragh. Sariska (ridden by Jamie Spencer for trainer Michael Bell) defeated fellow fillies Roses For The Lady (Sadler's Wells-Head In The Clouds, by Rainbow Quest) & Midday (Oasis Dream-Midsummer, by Kingmambo). Spencer commented: "Jesus she was electric. The going was extremely deep but she is so strong she went straight through it. The race could not have gone smoother, I was going to sit a little closer but everyone wanted to be handy so I was happy to sit at the rear. I only had one horse behind me at the top of the hill but she picked then off one by one. Remember this was only her fifth start and she has not disappointed yet." Sariska won the Gr1 English Oaks in June this year.
