Duporth International Campaign Confirmed
Trainer Anthony Cummings has confirmed he is planning an international campaign for Gr1-winning sprinter Duporth (Red Ransom-Staging, by Success Express) & has set his sights on The Hong Kong International Sprint (1200m) in December, according to anzbloodstocknews.com. This follows a report in June by Sydney's Daily Telegraph that Duporth, "could be set for the mighty US Breeders Cup series later this year". Owner-breeder Peter Moran said Breeders Cup organisers sent the invitation after Duporth's victory over older rivals in the Gr1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben & confirmed: "We are keen to go, but need to work out the logistics of the trip. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Duporth, who came from the back of the field in the BTC Cup and gained the judges decision in a 3-way photo finish, beating Apache Cat, will have a shortened spring campaign, restricted to just two races, and Cummings said he is still deciding if those races will be in Melbourne or Sydney. "We'll make those decisions as we get closer to the spring and aim everything at getting an invite to Hong Kong," he said. Duporth currently boasts 3 wins (also including May's Gr1 BTC Cup over 1200m at Doomben, 2008's Gr2 Golden Rose Stakes over 1400m at Rosehill & Gr3 San Domenico Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill) & a placing (in 2008's Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes over 1200m at Warwick Farm) from 13 starts for $1.124 million earnings.
