Durban July Winner To Remain In South Africa

Wednesday, 15th July 2009

Although many of South Africa's leading racehorses are finding their way to Dubai, recent Gr1 Durban July Handicap winner Big City Life will remain in South Africa, according to racingpost.com. The Glen Kotzen-trained 3YO colt "has already started his holiday," commented his trainer. "We are letting him down at the moment and in the next week we will send him home. He is going to go into a big paddock and relax. Next season his mission will be the Met. He will run in the Green Point Stakes and the Queen's Plate before that, and he may start off in a sprint." The July Handicap-Metropiltan Handicap double has only been achieved by 4 horses during the past 50 years - Yataghan, Politician, London News and Pocket Power (South Africa's reigning Horse of the Year who flashed home in the July).
