Party For NZ Freshman Alamosa

Wednesday, 15th July 2009

NZ stud farm Wellfield Lodge will stage an official launch function for its multiple Gr1-winning young stallion Alamosa (O'Reilly-Lodore Mystic, by Centaine) at the Palmerston North-based property next Thursday, July 23. According to Wellfield Lodge spokesman Hugh Taylor, 120 guests have been invited to view Alamosa & associate sire Handsome Ransom from 2pm, with a function to follow at the main Wellfield Lodge homestead. "It's an opportunity to welcome the many syndicate members in an appropriate manner," he commented. Shareholders in Alamosa are among the who's who of the New Zealand breeding industry, including Belvedere Farm, Cambridge Stud, Curraghmore Stud, Fairdale Stud, Goodwood Stud, Hallmark Stud, Haunui Farm, Pencarrow Stud, Rich Hill Stud, Trelawney Stud & Whakanui Stud. Alamosa won the Gr1 ARC Ford Diamond Stakes as a 2YO, and followed that up as a 3YO with victories in the Gr1 WRC Thorndon Mile & Gr1 Otaki Maori RC WFA Stakes while trained by Peter McKay at Matamata. Following his purchase by Wellfield Lodge and shareholders, Alamosa joined the Melbourne stable of Mick Price and added to his Gr1 record with a crushing win in the Gr1 MRC Toorak Handicap. "He is letting down wonderfully and I reckon he's put on 50 to 60 kilos since arriving home," said Taylor. A public viewing of Alamosa is possible Sunday week, July 26, when the Manawatu branch of the Breeders' Association stages its annual stallion parade.
