Top Apprentices Invited To Young Guns Challenge

Some of the leading apprentices in Asia & Australia have been invited by the Victoria Racing Club to compete on August 8 at Flemington in the Asian Young Guns Challenge. The competition will comprise a 3 race series to be run over 1000m (straight course), 1600m & 1800m. The riders are (with their achievements):

  • Nicholas Hall - Victoria: Equal leading apprentice in 2008/09 Melbourne Premiership (32 wins)
  • Dean Holland - Victoria: Equal leading apprentice in 2008/09 Melbourne Premiership (32 wins)
  • Matthew Chadwick - Hong Kong: Leading apprentice in HK & 3rd on 2009 overall jockeys' premiership with 43 wins
  • Derek Leung - Hong Kong: Runner up in 2009 HK apprentices' premiership with 28 wins  
  • Kota Fujioka - Japan: Career winner of 82 races including 2009 Gr1 NHK Mile Cup & Gr3 Falcon Stakes
  • Mark Ewe - Singapore: Currently 1st on apprentices' table in Singapore (15 wins)
  • Jacky Low - Singapore: Currently 2nd on apprentices' table in Singapore (9 wins)
