Castle Heights Wins Grafton Cup

Friday, 17th July 2009

Windsor Park Stud's Coolmore-owned Gr1-winning shuttler Golan (Spectrum-Highland Gift, by Generous) added a black-type success yesterday when 4YO gelding Castle Heights (Golan-Caernarfon, by Volksraad) won by a nose in the Listed Grafton Cup (2350m). Castle Heights (ridden by Stathi Katsidis for trainers Donna, Dean Logan & Chris Gibbs) defeated 5YO gelding Hume (Zabeel-Lolette, by Arazi) & 6YO gelding Twin Wing (Istidaad-Tiger Moth, by Sky Chase). Castle Heights (a $14,000 yearling 2006 NZ Bloodstock Select Sale) now has 6 wins & 1 placing from 14 starts for $183,276 earnings. In a boost for New Zealand Bloodstock, the Grafton Cup trifecta provided a NZ Bloodstock graduate clean sweep, including runners-up Hume (a $400,000 yearling at the 2005 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale) & Twin Wing (a $14,000 weanling at the 2003 NZ Bloodstock National Sale). Meanwhile Golan will be rested from shuttle duties and will consequently not return to New Zealand in 2009.
