Oliver To Ride In France

Friday, 17th July 2009

Champion Melbourne jockey Damien Oliver has been invited to take on the world's best riders in an international jockeys' series in France next month, reported racenet.com.au. Oliver, who is chasing his 7th Scobie Breasley Medal and is head & head with archrival Craig Williams for the Melbourne Jockeys Premiership, will face off against some of the word's best riders, including Italian jockey Frankie Dettori and Hong Kong legend Douglas Whyte. Held at Deauville on August 22 the three-race series will be run under weight-for-age conditions over distances ranging from 1300m to 2400m on both grass & all weather tracks, with the jockeys' rides to be drawn at random. Oliver's manager Mark Van Triet said Oliver also hoped to pick up a ride in the Gr1 Prix Morny to be held on the Sunday after the international jockeys' series although he concedes the chance of Oliver securing a ride are remote.
