The Mikado Lands $50,000 Inglis Bonus

Friday, 17th July 2009

The Tim Martin-trained 2YO colt The Mikado (Danehill Dancer-Lirico, by Rigoletto) landed the $50,000 Inglis Bonus at yesterday's Southern Cross Ten 2YO Plate at Grafton. The Mikado (a $25,000 yearling consigned by Coolmore Stud at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale) became the latest beneficiary of the $2.5 million Inglis Race Series. He was the cheapest yearling sold at Easter (Part 1) in 2008, and from 5 starts his earnings are already close to the $100,000 mark. Runner-up in the Gr3 Skyline Stakes (1200m) behind subsequent Gr1 winner Manhattan Rain, The Mikado (a grandson of Gr1 One Thousand Guineas winner Princess Talaria) led home an Inglis trifecta when staving off the challenge of this season's $250,000 Inglis Classic winner Fear No Other ($50,000 2008 Classic) & the previously unbeaten Sweepstaking ($80,000 2008 Premier). Nominations for 2009 yearlings for the $2.5 million Inglis Race Series close on July 31.
