2YO Defeats Older Horses In Adelaide

Wednesday, 22nd July 2009

With the start of the season still 10 days away, 2YO gelding Chartreux (Catbird-French Resort, by Bonhomie) defeated older horses at Kilmore in Victoria over 1450m. Trained by David Hayes & raced by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, Chartreux was originally a $62,000 weanling at the 2008 Magic Millions Winter Sale before being sold for $70,000 as a yearling by Toreby Park at the Magic Millions Perth Premier Sale. Following the victory David Hayes' longtime Melbourne foreman Gary Fennessy commented, "He's got the makings of a reasonable horse this bloke; I know it's only a maiden here but I think he will step up with six months on him. He's bred to get further on his dam side and with a bit of luck he will get faster on a dry track." Chartreux is 1 of 5 winners out of Gr1 Adelaide Cup winner French Resort.
