SA Derby Winner A Chance To Run At York

Wednesday, 22nd July 2009

Dual South African Gr1-winning 4YO gelding Kings Gambit (Silvano-Lady Brompton, by Al Mufti) is a chance to make his UK debut in Saturday's York Stakes at York, according to sahorseracing.com. Racing as a northern hemisphere 5YO, Kings Gambit is the winner of "both the Gr1 South African Classic & the Gr1 South African Derby at Turffontein in Johannesburg." Sent to Dubai for Dubai's World Cup Carnival where he failed to fire, Kings Gambit is under the care of trainer Tom Tate who commented, "He is a very interesting horse and we will know more about that after he has a race. He has pleased me since we got him and he looks a useful animal." A final decision on whether to run will be made after Tate confers with the owners.
