Less Is More For Relocated Sire Candy Ride

Friday, 24th July 2009

Following the news earlier this week that 10YO stallion Candy Ride (Ride The Rails-Candy Girl, by Candy Stripes) will relocate from John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm near Lexington to Will Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, connections have announced that Candy Ride's 2010 book will be dramatically scaled back. According to thoroughbredtimes.com, Ted Aroney, racing manager for Candy Ride's owner Jenny Craig, commented: "He covered about 181 [mares], and we're looking at about 100 or 125 next year... I think Mrs. Craig just thought it was too many." In a twist to the saga, the day after the announced relocation was made Candy Ride sired a US graded-stakes double at Hollywood Park when Evita Argentina (co-owned by Aroney) won the Gr2 A Gleam Handicap & Misremembered won the Gr2 Swaps Stakes.
