Near-Record UK 2010 Fixture List
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) announced on Thursday that the 2010 fixture list will have a calendar of 1,503 race meetings (13 more than the original program) and just one short of the record schedule in 2008, reported racingpost.com. No attempt was made to trim the numbers BHA racing director Ruth Quinn pointed out. Records will be set for jumps fixtures (590) and Sunday cards (153), and some courses, from Doncaster to Cartmel, will stage more meetings than ever. The impact of past recessions on racing has seen a time-lag before the effects were felt, meaning any reduction if any to the fixture list would be instituted in 2011. Despite the decline in total horse population, compared with 2008, "the demand for racing continues to exceed the fixture list", and therefore the BHA is going to support this demand.
