Conduit Wins UK Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes

Monday, 27th July 2009

In the UK, Irish-bred 4YO entire Conduit (Dalakhani-Well Head, by Sadler's Wells) scored by 1.75-lengths in the £1,000,000 (A$2,008,900) Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (12 furlongs on turf) for 3YOs & up at Ascot. Conduit (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Sir Michael Stoute) defeated 4YO entire Tartan Bearer (Spectrum-Highland Gift, by Generous) & 6YO entire Ask (Sadler's Wells-Request, by Rainbow Quest), both also trained by Stoute. Commenting on his unique trifecta, Stoute said: "It's nice to watch, especially when the third got up...It ranks very high among them [his career achievements] - this is a bit special". Conduit (last season's US Eclipse Award Winner as Champion Male Turf Horse) took his overall record to 6 wins (also including 2008's US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Turf over 12 furlongs at Santa Anita, UK Gr1 St Leger Stakes over 14 furlongs at Doncaster & UK Gr3 Gordon Stakes over 12 furlongs at Goodwood) & 5 placings (including both last start's UK Gr1 Eclipse Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown Park on July 4 & May's Gr3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes over 10 furlongs at Sandown, plus 2008's Gr2 King Edward VII Stakes over 12 furlongs at Royal Ascot) from 12 starts for £1,913,530 (A$3.894m) earnings.
