Global Hunter Wins US Gr1 Eddie Read

In the US, former Woodlands Stud shuttler Jade Hunter (Mr Prospector-Jadana, by Pharly) added a Gr1 triumph when Argentine-bred 6YO entire Global Hunter (Jade Hunter-Griffe de Paris, by Telescopico) scored a 1-length victory in the US$350,000 Gr1 Eddie Read Handicap (9 furlongs on turf) at Del Mar in California. Global Hunter (ridden by Corey Nakatani for trainer A.C.Avila) defeated fast-finishing 6YO gelding Awesome Gem (Awesome Again-Piano, by Pentelicus) & Irish-bred 5YO entire Whatsthescript (Royal Applause-Grizel, by Lion Cavern). Global Hunter (who moved from Argentina to the US in 2008) took his overall record to 7 wins (also including 2008's Listed Lure Stakes over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2007's Argentine Gr2 Clasico America over 1600m at San Isidro, Gr3 Clasico Horacio Bustillo over 1600m at San Isidro & Listed Clasico Urbano De Iriondo over 1400m at San Isidro) & 9 placings (including February's Listed Thunder Road Handicap over 8 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2008's Gr2 Del Mar Mile over 8 furlongs & Gr2 Mervyn Leroy Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Hollywood Park, as well as 2007's Argentine Gr1 Gran Premio Internacional Joaquin De Anchorena over 1600m at San Isidro, in addition to 2006's Argentine Gr1 Dos Mil Guineas-Consagracion De Potrillos over 1600m at San Isidro, Gr1 Gran Premio Polla De Potrillos over 1600m at Palermo & Gr2 Clasico Eduardo Casey over 2200m at Palermo) from 25 starts for US$455,365 earnings.
