Choisir Adds US Black-Type

Tuesday, 28th July 2009

In the US, former star Australian sprinter & Gr1-winning Coolmore shuttler Choisir (Danehill Dancer-Great Selection, by Lunchtime) added a black-type success when Irish-bred 4YO mare Meydan Princess (Choisir-Miss Assertive, by Zafonic) came from the tail of the field to score a 1.25-lengths victory in the US$95,000 Listed Osunitas Handicap (8.5 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Del Mar in California. Meydan Princess (ridden by David Flores for trainer James Cassidy) defeated UK-bred 5YO mare Restless Soul (Singspiel-Seasonal Splendour, by Prince Rupert) & fellow 4YO mare You Lift Me Up (Lord Carson-Up On Her Toes, by Green Dancer). Meydan Princess was originally a €50,000 (A$) yearling at the 2006 Goffs Orby Sale & subsequently a 200,000 guineas (A$) 3YO at last year's UK Tattersalls October Horses-In-Training Sale. Overall she now has 4 wins (also including 2008's UK Listed October Stakes over 7 furlongs at Ascot) & 5 placings from 14 starts for US$165,889 earnings.
