Qld Rejects On-Line Kiosks

Tuesday, 28th July 2009

Tatts Group "has been spared a serious competitive threat to its retail TAB operations in Queensland with the state's gambling regulator banning a potential rival from setting up touch-screen betting kiosks in hotels & clubs," reported The Australian Financial Review. Tatts' Unitab division operates the TAB in Queensland & "has escaped the looming threat of on-line betting kiosks that are being marketed by a small company called VenueNet". Queensland's Office Of Liquor & Gaming Regulation executive director Mike Sarquis has written to VenueNet, which has links to the on-line corporate bookmaker Sportsbet (bought by Irish betting giant Paddy Power in May) "telling them the kiosks breach wagering regulations" & "would not be allowed in Queensland". Tatts has "more than 700 retail TAB outlets in Queensland & 590 of them are located in hotels & clubs".
