Rodd Breaks Wrist In Trackwork Return
The Spring Carnival plans of top jockey Michael Rodd "are in disarray after he broke a wrist in a fall on his return to trackwork at Flemington yesterday morning," reported The Age in Melbourne. Rodd "was having his 1st day back following a short holiday & was looking forward to a repeat of last year's carnival during which he won the Gr1 Cox Plate on Maldivian"; Rodd also won the 2007 Gr1 Melbourne Cup on Efficient. He told the newspaper: “I was sitting on a horse & it stumbled underneath me. I went over the top of it & landed on my wrist. It is the same wrist I broke while I was riding in Hong Kong back in 2004. This time it looks as though all the ligaments are damaged as well. I've got to go & get some MRI scans done on it, but the early prognosis is that I will require a wrist reconstruction.” Rodd said he expected to be "out for a minimum of 6 weeks, however that time could extend indefinitely as wrist injuries can be tricky".
